in Improvements

Painting a room is one of the fastest ways to spruce up your space, particularly when you are doing your home improvements on a budget. It’s not hard either, once you know what you are doing.

The first thing you will need is your supplies. Purchase a drop cloth, paint rollers, small brushes for corners and edges, and a paint tray. You may also want painter’s tape to tape off the room. Once you have your supplies, prepare your space. Wash the walls using a mild soap and water, then lay out your drop cloth and tape off trim around doors or the edges of ceilings where you will not be painting. If your room has a dark color, you need to start with a primer to ensure the color does not affect the new paint color.

If your paint was purchased a few days before you begin, give it a good shake. You want it to be well mixed. Pour a little into the paint tray, and apply it using a roller and a “w” motion. Continue until you have covered the entire wall, and then look it over for spots you might have missed. Use a small brush to paint tight spaces and trim areas. Allow it to dry for 24 hours, and re-inspect to ensure you got all of the paint properly applied. Allow everything to dry and cure completely before removing tape. Congratulations! You have just finished painting a room and are ready to enjoy a newly fresh space.
